Organic Mixed Litter provides places to hide for vivarium inhabitants.  Leaf Litter breaks down very slowly and provides nutrition to the substrate, sustaining healthy populations of microfauna, such as springtails and isopods.  These microflora will provide a source of food for many vivarium inhabitants as well as aid in keeping the vivarium clean. 
 

Leaf Litter performs a very important role in a naturalistic vivarium. It provides shelter, visual barriers, and hiding places for the vivariums inhabitants.  Leaf litter mimics the role of dead plant matter in the forest.
